What is the difference between Single Weft, Double Weft and ITIPs and how do I know which one is right for me?


The single weft microlink method is designed for clients with thin to fine hair. The microbeads are installed between the weft providing a seamless install that blends perfectly with the client's natural hair. Also referred to as the floating weft extension method, single weft microlinks traditionally uses 1-1.5 bundles and is a lightweight way to add volume and length. The double weft microlink method is a great option for clients weft with medium to thick hair. The two wefts are hand tied over a row of microbeads to provide maximum fullness and added length. Double weft is great for clients who want a a full install look with 2-2.5 bundles while still accomplishing style versatility. Ponytail and high bun approved! The ITIP Method is another great option for clients with medium to thick hair. The individually placed ITIPS allow for a fully customizable install that adds volume, length and maximum style versatility. Client's love this weft-free method and enjoy the opportunity to run their hands through their luxury microlinks with no barriers.




Which install method is the best for me?


All methods are beautiful, easy, versatile and flexible. The method chosen is determined by YOUR natural hair (the weight, density, thickness, etc). If the correct method is selcted for your hair, your results will be optimal. Unsure which method is best to choose? Is there a certain hair texture or length that microlinks are better suited?


Microlinks are great for all hair textures. A texture match can be performed to accomplish your style goals. Microlinks are best suited for clients with hair at least 4-5" long to ensure their is enough hair to cover the microbeads and weft/ITIPS and pass the ponytal test. If your hair is short, you may not have the same versatility as someone with longer hair, but you can still get microlinks.




Is there a big difference between microlinks and ITIPs?


Single Weft Microlinks, Double Weft Microlinks are ITIPS are amongst the extension services we offer at Kerri Alston Hair. All three methods are different and suited for clients based on the health, weight and density of their natural hair.

Are Microlinks high maintenance?


No they are not! You can wash ans style them just like your real hair.




Are microlinks harsh on the your real hair?


Truth be told, if not properly installed, ANY type of extemsions can damage your hair. Improper sectioning, uneven weight distribution and applying extensions too tight causing tension will absolutely cause some breakage no matter the method. Be sure to only go to stylists who specialize in and are Master of Microlinks.




Does working out and sweating ruin microlinks?


Not at all! How you care for your hair when you encounter sweat, humidity and moisture without microlinks will be the same response needed with microlinks. You can also opt for a texture match closet to your natural hair.




How should I prepare my hair before going to bed with microlinks?


We recommend placing your hair into a low ponytail, put satin scarf on, then slip ponytail holder off and allow hair to hang. Sleep on a Kerri Alston Hair satin pillow case for the best results.




How long can I wear microlinks with routine maintenance?


Microlinks last up to 3 months with routine maintence and 6 week refresh appointments.




Are microlinks made to always be worn straight or can the extensions match my natural curls?


Microlinks are installed on freshly silk pressed hair. How you choose to wear your hair with your microlinks and the texture of your natural hair will determine the type of extensions used for your style. Microlinks do NOT have to only be worn straight and a texture match can be performed to accomplish your desired style.




Are Microlinks high maintenance?


No they are not! You can wash ans style them just like your real hair.

Microlink Consultations and Appointment Day

Do I need to come to my appointment with my hair already washed and silk pressed?


No! As a part of the Kerri Alston Hair experience, a shampoo, condition, dry and silk press is performed on your hair prior to your microlink installation.




How can I perform a consultaion with Kerri Alston Hair prior to booking an appointment?


We value every prospective client and offer virtual consultations daily. To begin a virtual consulation please text an image/images of your hair in the state in which you wish to wear your microlinks to 770.825.8081. Ensure your hair is free from any extensions. If your text, pleae also share if there is a particular install method that you are interested in. Rene, Kerri Alston Microlink Master, will be happy to answer any and all of your questions and advise you on the best installation method for your hair.





Microlink Health and Safety

Do I need to have a relaxer to get microlinks?


Your hair does not require a relaxer to wear microlinks. At Kerri Alston, we perform the majority of microlink installations on clients with natural hair.




If I have alopecia, breakage or severe damage, am I still a candidate for microlinks?


The health of your natural hair is at the forefront of everything we do. Detailed consultations are required regarding hair loss and hair damage concerns. Depending on the severity, we will determine if microlinks is the best extension method for you.




I relax my hair. Can I get microlinks?


The answer is yes you can! However, we have to caution clients that microlinks are designed to be worn for a max of 3 months with routine care and maintenance. Most client relax their hair every 4-6 weeks. You will NOT be able to relax your hair while wearing microlinks. The links will need to be removed and reinstalled when the client is due for her relaxer.




Do microlinks hurt when installed and cause pain to my scalp?


No! Microlinks are a tension free method and should not hurt.
