I started my my cosmetology career 10 years ago with a new baby, no money and no guidance.

I had no idea how to get my foot in the door and start building my clientele. I was scared like hell and couldn't wrap my head around how to become a successful stylist like the ones I looked up to. I had no followers on social media and no real plan of action.

I was literally in cosmetology school when I found out I was expecting my first child. Even though some may look at that as a set back, I was determined to finished and became more motivated than ever.

After 3 months of stagnant work, I quit.

The Power of Branding

Having been a licensed hair stylist since 2009, it wasn't  until 2017 that I started my brand Kerri Alston Beauty. (After realizing that I wanted more than to just be behind the chair.) I had since then went back to school to become a Cosmetology Instructor gaining so much knowledge about the beauty industry and the mounds of opportunity it possessed. It took me about 4 weeks to build my website and define my brand values, leaning on helpful blogs and online mentors to guide me through the process.

Once I began to implement some of the strategies I learned, I saw an increase in loyal clients and the true value in me being their go-to stylist. Without even trying hard I started making more money than I had in the last 10 years simply by offering more of what my ideal client needed. I no longer sent them away when they needed to purchase hair, no longer refereed them out when they wanted hair color & I stayed true to my specialty and mastered that.
